From her first childhood memories, Lemon Li has been struggling with the feeling that she is not pretty enough, even ugly.
自打记事以来，李柠檬（音）就感觉自己不够漂亮，甚至是有点丑，因此她一直在苦苦挣扎。
Her appearance has been something that has had a huge impact on her life. When she was a little girl, she would lock herself in her room and cry when her family friends and relatives mocked her for not looking cute. During her adolescent years, she would starve herself to lose weight. After she started working, she would spend 90 percent of her income on makeup, and she would rather be late for work than be seen without makeup on.
她的外貌也对其生活产生了巨大影响。在还是个小女孩的时候，每逢亲友嘲弄她不够可爱，她就把自己锁在房间里独自流泪。长大了，为了减肥，她忍饥挨饿。工作后，她把90%的收入花在了打扮上。她宁愿上班迟到，也不愿素颜见人。
"The inferiority feelings brought on by my appearance haunted me my whole life. It caused me great pain. Later on, I realized that I have a severe anxiety disorder because of my appearance," Li said.
李说道：“外貌带来的自卑感困扰了我的一生。它给我造成了很大的伤害。随后，我意识到，我因外貌患上了严重的焦虑症。”
According to Chen Zhilin, a psychologist based in Chongqing, an increasing number of Chinese are experiencing high levels of stress over their appearance. Some of the cases amounted to anxiety disorders, which are similar to emotional disorders like depression and can influence people’s lives in a negative way.
据重庆心理学家陈志林（音）介绍，越来越多的中国人因外貌变得高度紧张。一些人到了焦虑症的地步，这与抑郁症这样的情感障碍类似，它能够以一种负面的方式影响人们的生活。
"The tendency of people feeling anxious over their appearance has become more common in recent years in China, especially with the social atmosphere of people putting more emphasis on appearances, people sharing a single beauty standard and the rising popularity of plastic surgery," Chen said.
陈说道，“近年来，中国人因自己外貌变得焦虑的趋势愈加普遍，尤其是在这个看脸，大众审美单一，整形手术也愈加流行的社会里。”
