The meeting between Mohammad Javad Zarif and Catherine Ashton comes ahead of a trilateral meeting later on this Wednesday, which will include U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
The three are meeting to try to accelerate a deal to end the dispute over Tehran's nuclear programmer ahead of a November 24th deadline.
Michael Mann is a spokesperson for Catherine Ashton.
"The idea is just to try and work as hard as we can and try and see where we stand in the negotiations. We said after New York that there were still significant gaps and we would like to work as hard as we can and try and make some progress."
With only six weeks to go, significant differences still remain.
The Iranian side says it doesn't expect a breakthrough in talks this week.
However, Zarif does say they hope today's talks will help pave the way for a final deal.
