cription="编辑提供的本地文件" sourcename="本地文件" style="width: 500px; height: 333px" />THE HAGUE - Spanish photographer Samuel Aranda on Friday won the 2011 World Press Photo of the Year, with a picture showing a Yemeni woman holding a wounded relative in her arms after a violence in Yemen.
The picture was taken on October 15, 2011, inside a mosque used as a field hospital during clashes in the city of Sanaa, the capital of Yemen.
According to comments of the jury, the winning picture could speak for the situation in the whole region. It also shows a private, intimate side of what went on.
In the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest, the jury gave prizes in nine themed categories, with entries by 5,247 photographers from 124 countries participating and a total of 101,254 pictures submitted.
Aranda will receive his award during an ceremony in Amsterdam on April 21.
